Do you love the great outdoors and walking? 

Here are all our walking routes in our area. You will find a range of routes to discover the richness and curiosities of the area in all seasons. All the paths from the north to the south of the region, as well as those of the Stadt Rheinau across the Rhine, are indicated. In total, there are 162.8 km to walk. There are 17 routes on the French side ranging from 1.7 to 16.9 km, and 6 routes on the German side ranging from 1 to 17 km.

Between typical Alsatian villages and natural heritage, you can admire a varied palette of unique Rhine landscapes.

Dalhunden, Sentier de découverte du Hellwasser - Paysage

LE SENTIER DÉCOUVERTE DU HELLWASSER

Along the largest oxbow of the Moder, this trail presents the fauna and flora of the Rhine forest. 

Le long du plus grand bras mort de la Moder, ce sentier présente la faune et la flore de la forêt rhénane.

LE SENTIER BOTANIQUE MITTELGRUND

The botanical trail includes all the characteristic species of the Rhine forests. 

A fun trail, during which signs give you valuable information on the trees and shrubs typical of this environment. Of particular note is the presence of the staphylocustrum - or false pistachio tree - of which this is the only known station in France.

LE CHEMIN DES HOFTNAME

The signs will guide you from house to house, each one more beautiful than the next.  

The "Hoftname" tour allows you to discover the secrets of the families who lived here. This customary name is still commonly used by the inhabitants and long-established families in the village.

LE TOUR DES POTIERS

Discover an ancestral know-how. 

You will travel through the city of potters which will reveal its heritage and its ten or so workshops. Discover, along the potteries, passionate people who perpetuate secular gestures, giving birth to forms and moulds which make the richness of the Alsatian culinary tradition.

LA LIGNE DES AMERS

The Bitter Line offers a magnificent view of the Black Forest and of the ships passing through the largest inland locks in France.

Along the Rhine, an installation to walk slowly, to meditate. You will walk along a succession of fifteen bollards, each bearing a photograph of a landscape. The enamelled lava slabs are sealed onto concrete bollards that line the path. The path is located on the dike between KP 308 and 306.5.

LE PARCOURS DU MITTELKOPFGRUND

On the outskirts of Dalhunden, you can see the large reed bed of the Kohlgiessen

Egrets and herons can be seen here. On the outskirts of the village, a remnant of the Second World War has been converted into a bat shelter. Following the Moder loop, you pass asparagus fields, meadows and forest.

LE CIRCUIT DE LA POMME

You can admire the beautiful orchards that surround the eastern part of the village and are home to, among others, the very rare owl. 

A true discovery of the fields near a village. Proudly manicured areas and meadows in a shade of green follow one another. The local arboricultural association works throughout the year to replant the edges of the paths as well as hedges that will favour nesting.

LE CIRCUIT DU CASTOR

Take a deep breath of nature on this walk. 

You walk along the former high-water dam of the Rhine and then plunge into the heart of a forest classified as a nature reserve. Along the Muehlrhein you will discover beautiful willow groves, the beaver's favourite habitat.

DÉCOUVERTE DU RIED

Discover the remarkable landscapes of the Ried.

It is necessary to bring the guide to the discovery trail (available free of charge at the Town Hall and the Library). Then just follow the signs. The discreet wooden arrows allow the trail to be integrated into the remarkable landscape of the Ried. The arrows are made of aluminium in the village. The guidebook provides explanations of the places indicated by recognition posts (wooden posts with the theme written on them). 11 themes are developed along the way.

Follow in the footsteps of Sessenheim's most famous couple: Goethe and Frédérique.

Visit the places where the lovers met in secret: the Protestant church, the presbytery barn, the memorial, the tumulus and finally the oak tree.

LE SENTIER DU PATRIMOINE NATUREL ET HISTORIQUE

An immersion in the heart of the streets and alleys of Gambsheim.

The collection of more than 70 atypical houses will amaze you. The second part of this itinerary, in contrast, takes you through fields and forests to discover a wild and preserved nature.

LE CIRCUIT DU CYGNE

A pleasant route in the middle of nature, passing by the Rhine, the nature reserve forest and the dike.

Make your way along the Rhine dam before plunging into the heart of the Rhine forest and marvelling at the majestic views of the Rossmoerder. This former branch of the Rhine winds its way through the Rhine alluvial forest.

A tour full of art in the footsteps of a poet, an illustrator and a sculptor.

In Sessenheim, relive Goethe's romance with the pastor's daughter, in Rountzenheim-Auenheim, which was the holiday resort of the sculptor-medallist Alfred Marzolff, identify the scenery that inspired Henri Loux.

You will discover an exceptional landscape and environment. 

The Moder, the Rhine, the Rhine forest with its flora and fauna. You are in a protected biotope. Go back in time by walking through the remains of the fortifications built by Vauban in the 17th century.

Walk through meadows, fields, copses, ponds and crops. Along the Moder, admire the bucolic picture of flat-bottomed boats, tied to the bank, which let the water of the river flow peacefully.

Lush forests, some of which are classified as an integral biological reserve.

During your journey, you will climb the Heidenberg hill, a place where beliefs and realities go back to the mists of time. Typical villages follow one another with their colourful and well-kept half-timbered houses.

CIRCUIT HISTORIQUE DE HAUSGEREUT

Through the streets and alleys of the village, half-timbered houses, an old chapel, frescos and other milestones tell the story of a small rural community in the Hanauerland! 

The circular route with its 9 information panels tells the story of this small village, which had about 50 inhabitants in 1590. With the Heidenkirchlein in Freistett, the Hausgereuter Chapel, which was built in 1288 and survived all the wars, is one of the treasures of Hanauerland in terms of both local history and cultural history, a visit to which can be recommended to anyone.

Starting from the village square, you will discover the fauna, the flora and the local history. On this route with varied landscapes, you will discover 25 information panels in German. A friendly mill, which can be visited, a barefoot path and a fish ladder will delight young and old alike!

SENTIER DE LA MODER

This trail will appeal to hikers as well as those interested in nature, history or the way of life of the inhabitants. The trail will lead the hiker from the source of the river (Moderfeld) to its mouth (Neuhaeusel). The Club Vosgien will produce a guidebook with pictures of the regions traversed, the hiking route and the surrounding environment.

As the trail crosses the railway lines Strasbourg - Roeschwoog - Lauterbourg - Karlsruhe (D), Strasbourg - Haguenau - Wissembourg - Winden (D) - Neustadt/W. (D) and Strasbourg - Niederbronn-les-Bains - Bitche, it is possible to walk it in sections and easily return to the starting point.
